First, we got a pair of waterproof hiking boots from Columbia – they’re lightweight, comfortable, and keep our feet dry, even in the wettest conditions. My husband also found a great pair of waterproof boots that have been a lifesaver on our excursions.

Staying Dry with Waterproof Pants and Jackets
Preparing for the unpredictable weather in Alaska, we knew we needed to invest in some weatherproof clothing. My husband found a pair of amazing waterproof pants that have been a lifesaver on our more adventurous excursions. These lightweight, fleece-lined pants keep him dry and comfortable, no matter the conditions. Here’s a pair of similar pants for women.
These are similar to the terrific waterproof pants my husband bought for our trip to Alaska. These are quick dry cargo style pants. For him the fit was great, and the Free Soldier brand seems to get great reviews on Amazon. According to Amazon’s description, the pants are 86% nylon and 14% spandex.
For my outerwear, I opted for two jackets – a lightweight rain layer from Little Donkey Andy and a heavier, winter-weight jacket from Columbia. The rain jacket is perfect for those moderate, drizzly days, while the winter jacket has been a godsend on the chillier, glacier-bound days. The hood on the Columbia jacket has been a game-changer, keeping me warm and dry.

Staying Fresh and Wrinkle-Free
Packing for a cruise can be a challenge, but we’ve found a few items that have made a big difference. First, my husband invested in some wrinkle-resistant shirts from Amazon, which have been a lifesaver for looking polished without the hassle of ironing. And for my daily bag, I found a versatile purse that works perfectly for both casual and dressier outfits – it’s the perfect accessory for any cruise wardrobe.
Pampering Ourselves with Travel-Sized Essentials
Cruising can take a toll on our skin and hair, so we made sure to pack some travel-sized essentials to keep us feeling refreshed. I stocked up on Neutrogena makeup removal wipes and a travel-sized bottle of Neutrogena body oil to combat the dry Alaskan air. I also found a lovely face oil from Jurlique that has been a game-changer for my skin.

One of the most important things we packed for our Alaska cruise was a reliable supply of alcohol-based hand wipes. Whether we’re exploring a shore excursion or just navigating the ship, these wipes have been a lifesaver.
Another small but mighty item in our cruise arsenal is a travel-sized bottle of “Poo-Pourri” – a discreet way to keep those cruise ship bathroom odors at bay. And for those times when we need to do a quick sink wash, we packed a small container of Sink Suds detergent, which has come in handy more than once.
