Holland America Line Celebrates Alaska’s Statehood and offers Free Scenic Rail Excursion and Sweepstakes
Sixty-five years ago, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed a bill into law granting Alaska statehood. Today, we have news from Holland America Cruise Line detailing how they are celebrating this momentous occasion. Alaska cruise season is right around the corner, so this offer and sweepstakes from Holland is perfectly timed.
According to Holland America’s news release, you can enter to win a seven-day Alaska cruise and roundtrip flights from Alaska Airlines for two in honor of Alaska’s 65th birthday.
To mark Alaska Statehood Day, Holland America Line is offering up air, land, and sea. On the 65th anniversary of Alaska’s statehood, the cruise line is offering a free “White Pass Summit Scenic Railroad” excursion on select 2024 cruises or Cruisetours that include a call at Skagway, Alaska.
We’ve been on a White Pass Railroad excursion, and it truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can check out some of that activity in the video below.

More about Holland America’s free Scenic Rail offer and Sweepstakes
Holland America Line has been exploring Alaska for more than 75 years. Currently, Holland offers the most visits to Alaska’s glaciers and more access to wildlife than any other cruise line. With today’s special Alaska celebration offer, guests on select cruises and Cruisetours can enjoy a complimentary ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad. The railroad was built 120 years ago through beautiful and rugged terrain in the heat of the Klondike Gold Rush and is still in operation today.
What you may not know about the White Pass Railway
The White Pass Railway was completed in 1900 during the Klondike Gold Rush, connecting the port of Skagway, Alaska, with the Whitehorse, Yukon in Canada, and is an engineering marvel, with a total length of approximately 110 miles (177 kilometers). The steepest section of the railway is known as the White Pass Summit, which features a maximum gradient of 3.9%, making it one of the steepest railway gradients in North America. Built during the Klondike Gold Rush, the railway was primarily used to transport prospectors and their supplies to the goldfields. However, it also played a significant role in transporting goods during World War II.
Holland America’s thoughts on Alaska’s statehood day celebration
“We’ve been exploring Alaska with guests since before it was a state, so we’re thrilled to celebrate statehood day with this offer,” said Dan Rough, vice president of revenue management at Holland America Line. “The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad is a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, and the views are breathtaking, just one more reason visiting Alaska with Holland America Line is a bucket-list vacation.”
The offer is valid through Jan. 15, 2024, for North American guests using the promo code WHITEPASS at checkout. This promotion is for new bookings only and can be combined with the “Time of Your Life” Wave Season offer that features balcony upgrades, savings up to 40% and free fares for kids.
